Wedding Cake: What's Up With the Cake-Cutting Fee?

Q.

Why is my wedding reception site charging me a cake-cutting fee?

A.

Many establishments charge an additional fee to cut and serve the wedding cake when a cake designer who is not affiliated with their venue or pastry chef creates the wedding cake. It's usually just an incentive for you to use their in-house baker and not get charged an extra fee; if you decide to have your cake made elsewhere, factor in another $1.50 or more per person.
