I've been shaving my bikini line and it's not looking so hot -- lots of red bumps. I'm thinking about having it waxed before the honeymoon. Does it hurt?
There's no need to cry over an unsightly bikini line! Waxing is much less barbaric than it used to be. Though the image of pouring hot wax on your hair (especially down there), letting it cool, then ripping it off (ouch!) isn't very enticing, the waxes used in salons today are formulated to grab the hair only -- and leave your skin behind. While there are also at-home waxing kits available, this is probably one time to forego the D.I.Y. route. The professionals are well trained -- you won't be totally tortured. They know how to apply the wax the right way (in the same direction as hair growth) to avoid breakage and ingrown hairs (those tiny red bumps you speak of). If you're worried about pain, don't wax before your period -- not only is it the last thing you need when you're PMS-ing, but your skin is so much more sensitive at that time of the month. It also helps to take Advil or Tylenol 30 minutes before your waxing appointment.
