Church Weddings: Remarriage in the Catholic Church?

Q.

The most wonderful man has asked me to marry him! He is kind, considerate, and Catholic. He is also divorced. In order to be married in a church (which I fully intend to do), what are the necessary proceedings?

A.

It’s wonderful that you’ve found your dream guy! However, if you’re adamant on marrying in a Roman Catholic Church, your honey must have an annulment from his first wife (if she’s alive). This can be a sticky situation, so discuss it with your fiancé and find out how he feels about seeking an annulment. If neither he nor his ex-wife object, you’re home free. But the process can be long and complicated – better start the paperwork now.
