My wedding photographer says I can buy the negatives of my wedding pictures for an additional, very expensive, fee. Is it worth it?
By purchasing your portrait negatives, you are making sure you have them for years to come for reprints or to pass down to younger generations, so you may want to make the investment. Many photographers do not offer you the opportunity to purchase the negatives, as they like to hold on to them for their professional portfolios. This explains the high cost you were quoted. If you decide that you don't want to spend the money, find out if your photographer will either allow you to borrow your negatives when and if you would like to make reprints, or will offer you the option to purchase them in the future should you change your mind.
