wedding invitation basics

Your wedding invitations are your guests' first glimpse into your wedding style -- from the overall vibe and aesthetic to specific color combos and the level of formality. So make them count! Start by setting a guest list, wedding budget and your wedding theme. Once you've got those figured out, browse wedding invites online that suit your wedding style. You can also browse save-the-dates, escort cards, programs and menu cards in our online photo galleries. Then, find a stationer in your area to get started!

getting started

9-11 months

  • Browse invitations to get an idea of what you like. Once you've got a rough guest list, date and a budget in mind, find your stationer.
  • Create a wedding website with your proposal story (and later all the details to keep guests in-the-know).

6-8 months

  • Order your save-the-dates and send them to your guests.

4-5 months

  • Time to order your invitations. You'll also want to order those inserts (like RSVP cards or rehearsal dinner invites).

2-3 months

  • Time to send out your invitations. If lots of guests are booking flights, at least 8 weeks notice is ideal.

2 weeks

  • All RSVP cards should be back.
