My fiance and I are having a groom's cake. We love the idea of serving two wedding cakes, especially because I am a vanilla nut and he craves chocolate. Who gets to come up with the groom's cake design -- him or me?
Just because it's the groom's cake doesn't mean the groom has to design it. In fact, coming up with the design -- as well as flavors -- for both the wedding cake and the groom's cake should be a joint effort of you, your fiance, and your wedding cake baker. Often less traditional than the wedding cake, the groom's cake can be anything from a single-layer cake designed to model his favorite tie or include his favorite sports team mascot, to a smaller multitiered confection in the shape of a sandcastle or a city skyline. In the end, try to design something around his passions and obsessions.
