Maid of Honor: Can I Have a Man of Honor Instead?

Q.

I absolutely adore one of my friends and must include this person in my wedding party. I want this person to stand on the bride's side. The problem: he's male. What do I do?

A.

This is not a problem at all. More and more brides and grooms are asking close friends of the opposite sex to be their attendants -- and it's about time. If you want him to be your honor attendant, call him the man of honor. If you want him to stand with the bridesmaids, call him a bridesman. Your guy should wear whatever the groomsmen are wearing. Also, let your photographer know that he should be photographed as one of your attendants in group wedding party pictures.
