Q.
At what age are girls too old to be flower girls?
A.
Flower girls are generally between four and eight years old. (Sometimes, "mature" two- and three-year-olds pull it off quite charmingly, possibly with parents escorting them down the aisle.) If the girl is a bit older, you might consider making her a junior bridesmaid -- junior bridesmaids wear dresses similar (or the same) in color and style as the bridesmaids', they walk down the aisle in the procession, and they stand at the altar or stage with the other attendants.

We are keeping our bridal party to just family. My fiance has an 8 year old sister and a 12 year old brother. We are making them junior bridesmaid/groomsman instead of flower girl/ring bearer. We decided on this because they are big kids for their age (they look about 11 and 15) and they wouldn't even fit into any flower girl/ring bearer outfits. I think it all depends on the maturity of the kids too. I think this just goes to show you can do whatever you want... it's your wedding! Have fun with it!

My fiance and I don't have any young cousins or friends. I'm really close to a 7 year old who will be 10 by the time of my wedding. This wouldn't bother me except that the ring bearer will be 4 and one of the groomsmen will be 13. She's closer in age to the groomsman. I feel bad but I really hate the junior bridesmaid. I don't care about the age but I think my guests will. I'd hate for someone to tell Isabel that she is too old. It would really hurt her feelings.

My flower girls are 9 and 11. I have 2 nieces that are very special to me and who very much wanted to be a part of the wedding. I have 5 bridesmaids and didn't want to do the jr. bridesmaid thing. My bridesmaids are wearing dark teal dresses and the FG are wearing white dresses with a dark teal sash. May not be proper - but it's going to work for us and be very special!

Initially i was only going to have two flower girls. Both are 3 years old and my nieces- one is my goddaughter. However, I couldn't figure out what to do with my 12 year old niece who olds a very special place in my heart, but i didnt want her to be a jr. bridesmaid. Finally decided-- the two little girls will wear matching black and white dresses and toss red rose petals; my 12 year old niece will wear a simple black dress (to match the bridesmaids) with a red sash (my accent color) around her waist. She will walk out after the two little girls and toss white rose petals just before I walk out. I haven't seen this before, but I really hope it works for my December wedding. (btw, my ring bearer is my 7 year old nephew.)
