Q.
What should I eat on my wedding morning to give me enough strength to get through the day?
A.
Choose foods that will help to stabilize your blood sugar and won't sit in your stomach like lead (or give you gas and bloat). Try cheese and crackers, a banana with yogurt, a bowl of cereal, or a fruit smoothie. If you're lactose intolerant, try pita bread with peanut butter, dry cereal mixed with nuts and raisins, or scrambled egg whites on a roll.

NUTS AND APPLES!! I'm a night-shift nurse, and I have found that nuts are my best weapon against mid-shift blood sugar drops, munchies, and fatigue. I take a tupperware container of almonds, pecans, walnuts, and sometimes cashews w/ me to work and share it w/ my co-workers. They have a high caloric index, so just a small handful goes a very long way. Several of my co-workers have now started bringing their own little nut-stash, too! I also find that when I include nuts as a daily staple, I lose weight, as they help control appetite. Apples are also an excellent choice, as they really help stabilize blood sugar levels and are filling and low calorie.

Be sure to eat the right amount. Eat too little, and you risk a fainting fit (I know your groom loves to sweep you off your feet, but not like that!). Eat too much, and you'll feel uncomfortable getting into your very well-fitted gown. Try a grain and meat/nut combination to give you quick energy from the carbs, but longer lasting energy from the protein. And keep a couple of snackbars handy in case you feel peckish or someone else in the bridal party forgot to eat.

I have heard to stay away from dairy the morning of because it can cause bloating later in the day - and that's not just advice for lactose intolerant women. It might be good to stick with fruits, salads, nuts, sandwiches, etc.
