Wedding Registry Basics

When you're creating a wedding registry, there are a few things you should keep in mind. First, timing. It's definitely acceptable to start a bridal registry shortly after you get engaged. There will be plenty of parties before your wedding day (engagement parties, bridal showers, and maybe even a separate couple's shower), and many of your guests will want to bring you a gift. Take the guess work out of their job by creating a wedding registry that they can refer to for great wedding gift ideas. Another one of our top tips for wedding registries is that you shouldn't feel obligated to stick only to traditional wedding registry items like crystal or fancy china. Those are still top registry items, and for good reason, but couples today are registering for more specialty items, whether it is a great fajita pan, a fondue set, or even camping equipment. Next, remember to consider the convenience for all of your guests, especially those who live out of town. Be sure to register at a few different stores, including at least one national retailer or a store that has a website so guests who live out of the area can order you a wedding gift. Creating online wedding registries will also be helpful for you to keep track of what you have already requested and make updating your registry a snap. Our final top tip for wedding registries: Make sure you and your fiance register together. Since the gifts will be for both of you, you want to make sure that everything from your dinner plates to your bed sheets reflects both of your styles. Think of it as practice for a lifetime of compromise -- you might just be surprised how much you have in common!
