Toronto wedding basics

Dress fittings, wedding vendor interviews, tastings, not to mention bridal party drama -- it's enough to drive any bride crazy. Here are a few tips to keep from losing your cool while you plan your Toronto wedding.

1. Plan for disaster. Always have a plan B (or C. Or X, Y, Z.) in case of emergencies. Consider booking a Toronto wedding coordinator for your big day. This person is a professional at dealing with wedding malfunctions, and she or he will be on hand to take care of any unforeseen issues. On the day of your wedding, your only job is to get married. Let someone else handle the stress.

2. Take time for yourself (and your fiance!). If wedding planning is taking over your life, take a time-out! Book a spa session or go on a weekend getaway with your hubbie-to-be. Even taking a few nights off for a relaxing dinner or movie night can do wonders in cooling your frazzled nerves.

3. Trust your vendors. Don't feel like you need to micromanage every aspect of your Toronto wedding to get what you want. You hired your vendors for a reason; now it's time to let them do their jobs. You're more likely to get a good result if you let the professionals do their work without pestering them all the time (wouldn't you rather work for someone who trusted you?).

4. Be organized. From the moment you begin planning, keep a notebook or binder of all your wedding vendor information and inspiration. Spreadsheets to track payments will help you keep on schedule and on budget. You should also have a contact sheet with your Toronto wedding photographer, baker, caterer, and any other point person you might need to check in with on the big day. This can also be helpful if you put another person in charge on the day of your wedding, since they most likely won't have been in on your consultations.
