Q How many gowns did you try on before you found the right one?
I spent five hours trying on dresses, so I lost count! I finally decided on a Mon Cheri Bridals gown with a sweetheart neckline and lace bodice. I knew I wanted my shoulders covered for the ceremony, so I also ordered two extra yards of lace to make cap sleeves.
Q Did you go through all that trouble when it came to trying on shoes as well?
No! I found the most gorgeous pair of chocolate-brown Stuart Weitzman peep-toe pumps with Swarovski crystal accents at Nordstrom. Not only did they match the bridesmaid dresses, they were also extremely comfortable -- a rare find!
Q So being comfortable was important to you. How else did this affect what you wore?
I originally bought Spanx to wear under my gown, but I decided not to at the last minute because I didn't want to feel so restricted. Instead, I just put on a pair of really cute (and really comfy) boy shorts.
Q With your look down, how did you choose the bridesmaid dresses?
Mark and I agreed that our bridesmaids would wear cocktail dresses so that they could wear them again if they wanted to. I knew I found them -- tea-length dresses by Jasmine -- when the skirt twirled just like Baby's did in Dirty Dancing, one of my all-time favorite movies!
Q What about the groomsmen? How did you pick out their look?
Mark and his groomsmen wore tuxes since anything else would have seemed out of place for our upscale wedding. We wanted a very classy, polished look -- and we got it!

Q What was the overall style you were going for with your look?
Since it was an outdoor wedding, I wanted a very natural, yet romantic look. I kept saying that I wanted to look like myself, but prettier!
Q Your gown is absolutely perfect for you. Did you have that style in mind before you bought it?
No, but I had to consider two things: the Texas heat in September and my size. I'm only 4'11", so that played a big factor. I chose a mermaid-style gown with a sweetheart neckline by Palazzo because the silk taffeta skirt was light and didn't overwhelm my figure.
Q Yikes, heat can certainly be a concern. How did you get your makeup to last?
I couldn't have lived without Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch primer! This makeup base creates a smooth look and it made my skin feel so soft.
Q Now that you've been there, done that, any advice for other Texas brides?
Be prepared for alteration charges, especially if you're on the smaller side! We had to pay an additional $500 since I was smaller than the size 2 dress pattern, and then another $750 for more alterations once it arrived.

Q When you started your gown search, what did you have in mind?
I wanted something that was elegant, but also had a Western twist to go with our ranch wedding.
Q How many gowns did you try on before you found your dress?
Probably 10. My mom and my sister saw my Oscar de la Renta dress first, and knew it was the one. It had everything I was looking for: beading, a formfitting silhouette and silk fabric.
Q Once you had the perfect dress, how did you accessorize it?
I wore my grandmother's earrings. I also pinned one of my mom's crosses to the inside of my dress and wore a veil that I took off after the ceremony. It was too long to wear all day.
Q Okay, so you've talked us through the top half of your look. What'd you wear on the bottom?
I actually ended up buying my shoes online! They were white satin shoes by Kate Spade with three-inch heels. I figured I could dye them any color I wanted after the wedding and still wear them.
