Q What was the overall style you were going for?
I was trying for sophisticated and elegant with a sexy edge. I was also hoping for a gown I’d still want to wear when I look back at it years from now. But most of all, I wanted to leave my husband breathless!
Q How did you decide on a hairstyle?I knew I wanted something romantic that had a lot of texture. I kept it simple, though, so that the focus would be on my face and dress.
Q And what a great dress you found! Was it love at first sight?
When I tried on my Alvina Valenta dress for the first time, everything just clicked. I loved how it combined different fabrics and textures. The same lace that was on the halter part of the dress was also along the hemline. And it had satin-covered buttons down the back—I think every girl has a soft spot for those!
Q With your look down, how did you choose the bridesmaid dresses?
My bridesmaids ranged in height from 5’2” to 5’10”, so I knew I needed a classic style for everyone to be comfortable. I loved the plum color because it looked good with every skin tone.
Q What about the groomsmen? How did you pick their look?
We were going for a George Clooney vibe. The guys wore black tuxes because, to me, there’s nothing more classic than a handsome man in a tux!

Venue: The Beach Plum Inn
Q How many gowns did you try on before you found the one?
My Vineyard gown was the third one I tried on. Even though I was basically set on it right away, I tried on about 10 more just to be sure.
Q What jewelry did you wear?
I wore pearl-stud earrings and no necklace. I didn’t want my arms to be bare too, so I doubled up my mom’s strand of pearls to use as a bracelet.
Q Your makeup was very natural. How did you do it?
All of the products I used were by Trish McEvoy—her foundation, concealer and bronzer worked together to give me a youthful glow.
Q Was there a product that you couldn’t have lived without?
Yes, the Trish McEvoy Even Skin Face Primer was essential that day. It was hot and sunny and I danced a lot, but I never had to fix my makeup; the primer made everything last without smudges or fading!

Q When you first started your gown search, what did you have in mind?
I was looking for something timeless with a modern twist. I found that balance in my Monique Lhuillier dress. It was all lace, so in that way it was traditional, but the deep-V cuts in the front and back were contemporary.
Q Did you make any changes to your gown?
I added some lace to the top of the dress to make it less revealing. I think the deep V added allure to the gown, but I didn’t want it to be too sexy.
Q How did you accessorize?
I wore a pair of simple, crystal drop earrings and a Nadri cuff bracelet. I really wanted to wear bright shoes at my wedding, so I went with four-inch, apple-green heels to make my look more fun.
Q Wow, bright-green shoes! Did you try to have some fun with your hairstyle too?
My husband wanted me to throw it up in a messy bun like I do on the weekends! In the end, I went for a stylized, low, messy bun.
