I am estranged from my father. He is coming to the wedding, but he hasn't contributed in any way, either monetarily or emotionally. In fact, he doesn't even like my fiance. Should he be in the receiving line?
It's not mandatory to have your dad in the receiving line just because he's your father, especially if you don't feel he supports your marriage. Actually, fathers are optional in the receiving line, so there's a truly graceful way to deal with this situation. Ask the dads to start circulating and mixing with guests while you two and your moms (maid of honor and best man are also optional) greet guests in the receiving line.
