Bridal Shower Games: The Newlywed Game

The Idea: How well does the groom know the bride?

What You Need:
A list of questions
Time with the groom
Tape recorder (optional)
Video camera/TV/DVD player (optional)

How to Play: Before the bridal shower, ask the groom 20 questions (or so) about the bride and their relationship: Where was your first kiss? What’s his most annoying habit? Which of these are you most likely to fight about: messiness, social plans, or wedding stress? At the bridal shower, ask the bride the same questions and see how many answers they have in common.

If you’re tech-savvy, film the groom answering the questions (or use a tape recorder); and play back his answers for everyone to see and hear (allow for a pause between questions). But remember your audience -- don’t ask questions about the first time they spent the night together if grandma is going to be there.

Bonus Round: How well do the guests know the bride? Have the groom -- whether on video, tape recorder, or listed on a sheet of paper -- ask the guests questions about the bride. “What does she say before she goes to bed?” “What is her favorite ice cream flavor?” “What is the name of her alter ego?” See who gets the most right.

Thank you so much, these Shower game ideas were GREAT!

for my own shower, the host asked for my input on activities. Cruising around on the internet... I found a lot of info. Here is a collective list of what I thought were the best. (HINT: Maybe the knot should make an article of these!) I tried to include any info I knew about the source I got the game idea from! I hope this list helps some potential Shower providers throw the best parties! Sincerely, Rebekah a Bride Tissue Paper Veil Submitted by: K. O. of Kokomo, Indiana Similar to the wedding dress game, two of my closest friends threw me a shower and had the guests create a wedding veil. Each guest was given 3 sheets of ordinary white tissue paper and given 5 minutes to create a veil for me. After the 5 minutes were up, the guests had to model their veil and I was to choose my favorite and wear it through the shower. Needless to say, there were some quite outrageous veils and a whole lot of laughs! This was by far my favorite game of the day -- and I even wore it during the rehearsal!! Toilet Paper Wedding Dress Submitted by: Bliss!™ This is one of the more popular games played at bridal showers. We divided the guests (including me and my bridesmaids) into teams of three. Each team was handed four rolls of white toilet paper (recycled, of course) and were given 20 minutes to design a wedding dress. Each team chooses a "bride" and then proceeds to design a dress and wrap the "bride" within the allotted time. Each team bride was then paraded in front of the guests (it was hilarious on how some of my friends' creative juices flowed!) and votes were taken to determine the prettiest bridal gown. A gift was then awarded to the chosen bride and her design team! Scrapbook Submitted by: A. A. of Anchorage, Alaska One of the games I put together was the creation of a prank scrapbook for the bride depicting her future! Each group of women was given a theme (for example, the home or family.) They used the provided bunches of magazines and other materials to cut out pictures or words of what they thought her future might look like, it's great fun to see how quickly her possible life becomes outrageous!! And she can keep it forever! Bridal Pictionary Submitted by: L. F. of Point Mugu, California At a shower for a friend, the hostesses created a game of "Bridal Pictionary." You could go with a certain number of things to draw, or, if you're creative and like the actual game of Pictionary, you could create specific categories and go from there. The hostesses put a large board on sturdy chair and provided lots of paper and colored markers. We were divided into two teams. It was a great ice breaker and a lot of fun!! Pin the Veil on the Bride Submitted by: P. Carpio of Blue Island, Illinois Play pin the veil on the bride. Just like pin the tail on the donkey. You can draw a profile of a bride and make a pretty veil. All the guests get a turn and the closest one gets a prize. Who Am I? Submitted by: S. C. of Tacoma, Washington Each guest is sent a 3x5 card with their invitation. The guest is to type out a memory they have with the bride. They do NOT include their name. Then, at the shower the bride reads the cards and has to guess who wrote down that memory. It is a great game because it gives the bride a stack of memories and also allows "strangers" at the shower to get to know how others know the bride. Door Prize Submitted by: A. J. of London, Ontario When the guests first arrive have them fill out a piece of paper with their wedding date or, if they are single, their birthday. The person with the date closest to the bride's wedding date wins the prize. What's in a Name? Submitted by: A. P. of Stockton I had pre-printed sheets of paper that had the Groom's name and the bride's name at the top. Guests were given four minutes to make as many words as possible using the letters from both names. Words had to be at least four letters long and no proper nouns. The two people with the most words each got to pick a prize. Bride and Groom Trivia Submitted by: Jennifer of Dallas Before the shower, someone who knows the bride and Groom well comprises a list of trivia questions about the bride and the Groom. Examples: how they met, where did they go on their first date, how many children they want, etc. The person whose answers most closely matches the bride's answers will win a prize. The Word Game Submitted by: Bliss!™ This game coincided with me opening up my gifts. Little did I know that one of my bridesmaids was desperately writing my verbal reactions to my lingerie gifts. After I opened up all my gifts, my bridesmaid read all my verbal reactions and said that this is what I will be saying on my wedding night! It was hilarious! I said stuff like, "How do you use this?", "Oh my gosh!", "Oh, this is wonderful!", "How do you put this on?", etc. You get the picture... Don’t Break the Ribbon… -anonymous It is a tradition at all Bridal showers to count the number of times the Bride accidently or on purpose breaks a ribbon wrapped around one of her gifts. However many ribbons she breaks is the number of children she will have. If the bride manages not to break any, it should be noted that life is still full of little surprises! Or something like that. To make this game more fun, ask guests to make ribbons as difficult to remove from wrapping as they can.
