Q&A: Wedding Gown: Finding a Plus-Size Gown?

Q.

I'm a size 20. Will I ever be able to find a beautiful wedding dress that flatters my body? I only have six months until my wedding and doubt that I'll be able to lose much weight before then. What should I do?

A.

First of all, forget the diet. You have more important things to think about. Brides should eat healthfully and exercise, especially before the wedding -- can you say stress buster? -- but the D-word just creates stress. Fortunately, designers have caught on that not everyone is a size 8, and they've created some beautiful, figure-flattering designs to fit you. Not only does your dream dress exist, it's available in your size! Look for gowns by designers like the Diamond Collection, Jasmine, Alfred Angelo, Jim Hjelm, and Sweetheart. These are just a few of the many designers whose lines include size 20 -- and some even go up to size 44. Ask your bridal salon for details on specific designers. And, don't fret, you have terrific options!

I haven't started looking for a dress yet (I have 13 months until the wedding) but I'm hoping they have sample sizes in around a 16/18.

I tried on a Allure gown that was a size 10 the sales lady was so helpful and held it up on me the best she could lol i would say try on tons of styles so that you know what looks best. the dress in my size 22(street size 16/18 40DDD bra) looked amazing it was perfectly porportioned and came up high over my boobies didnt want them to show.. the line at all if that makes sense. i hated davids bridal had a horrble experience. when i was telling her the styles i liked she kept saying, your size but for your size etc. So ladies if youre in Charleston sc I had a great experience at jodis bridals. i was worried that i wouldnt be able to look good bc i wasnt a size 2 or 4 but its possible. oh yeah and proud to say with my big boobies my strapless dress held the girls up and in all night.

Davids Bridal was the only store that I went to that actually carried samples in my size(18). The bridal assisant/stylist lady was SO helpful, I picked out four different styles to try on and ended up picking the last one. After I picked the dress she helped me pick shoes and my veil without being pushy or trying to "sell" me on something that I didn't want. three cheers for davids bridal!
